Over the last few months we have received valuable pro bono assistance from lawyers on a range of key projects. For example, a team of four volunteer lawyers, including Kendra Orr and Joshua Toll (from King & Spalding), Ed Sohn (from Pangea 3), and Jeanny Lee, helped to draft State Action Plans for combating bonded labor slavery in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. The State Action Plans will help to shape the direction of government activities to combat bonded labor in these strategic areas in the fight against global slavery. Jeanny Lee also provided assistance on a range of other pro bono projects including analyzing several key business legal issues and drafting documents for one of JVI’s freedom business clients in India. Volunteers Mark Crandley and Kelly Hartzler (from Barnes & Thornburg) are providing general corporate counsel assistance to the Starfish Project, a unique business providing holistic freedom to sexually exploited women in Asia. Volunteer Ed Sohn (from Pangea 3) recently participated as a speaker at a Judicial Colloquium focused on anti-human trafficking in Bihar that was organized by the Bihar Judicial Academy in collaboration with JVI. Bihar is a key Indian state in the fight against human trafficking and the Colloquium engaged over 50 judges.
