Two Minor Girls Rescued from Traffickers

On Dec 12, a JVI Justice Hub led by three local partners collaborated with local authorities in rescuing two minor girls from sex trafficking and arresting fifteen suspects involved in the case. The 16- and 17-year-old girls were being exploited in a brothel in a redlight area in northern India, where a police raid a month earlier had been unsuccessful.

Justice Hub staff held pre-rescue meetings with local police to create a detailed rescue plan that would ensure the safety of the operation and build a strong legal case to improve the likelihood of securing justice long-term. The rescue took around three hours to complete with three houses raided, two girls rescued, and fifteen suspects arrested. The Justice Hub staff assisted the police with identification, collection of evidence, and drafting legal documents. The girls were taken to the local hospital and then to an aftercare home.

After the operation was complete, our team noted the successful collaboration between multiple partners and the local police, an example of the vibrant partnerships critical to securing freedom, justice, and restoration for more vulnerable individuals.
