In 2021, JVI partner Freeset officially combined forces with two like minded organizations to form Joyya. Joyya produces handmade, eco-friendly, fair trade products through a just and robust business model that lifts up entire communities.
JVI works closely with Joyya and other partners in Kolkata where there are a significant number of sex trafficking victims. Partners like Joyya provide skills training and income-earning opportunities for women vulnerable to trafficking and other forms of extreme injustice.
In one Kolkata rescue operation conducted by JVI and another local partner, 13 young women (5 minors) were rescued from a brothel in a well known red-light area. The police arrested six suspected traffickers. JVI lawyers assisted the officials in preparing the seizure list and filing the official police complaint. The survivors were transported to aftercare homes to begin their healing.

As a partnership organization, JVI builds the capacity of local nonprofits, businesses and other organizations engaged in the work of justice by coming alongside, joining together as partners and bolstering their effectiveness. JVI’s partnership model has been effective in securing sustained freedom, justice, and restoration for men, women, and children, freeing tens of thousands from human trafficking and other extreme injustice.

One organization alone cannot provide holistic justice solutions to massive problems like bonded labor, sex trafficking, child slavery, oppression in urban slums, and other forms of extreme injustice. By partnering, we combine greater skills, innovation and cultural understanding to design justice solutions that work.
