The Bandhua 1947 is a national campaign to mobilize people to advocate for them with the government, to fight bonded labor. Slavery. India became an independent nation on August 15, 1947. Prior to independence, India was under the British rule. Now, post independence, millions are still ‘bandhua’ – under bondage- by their own Indian countrymen. People of lower castes and poorest of poor comprise a heavy percentage of those in bondage. Slavery or bonded labor was abolished in 1976 under the Bonded Labor System (Abolition Act). Unfortunately, bonded labor is imbedded deeply in the culture and caste system. That is why campaigns like Bandhua1947 have to fight at the system level, educating and restoring freedoms to those who are under slavery, and train and mobilize the government to protect the rights of all individuals.
Justice Ventures International is a part of this campaign along with other NGOs like International Justice Mission, Jeevika, Action Aid, etc. To read more about Bandhua1947 and bonded labor check out their website: http://www.bandhua1947.com/
Also, let us continue to pray for freedom and restoration for all.
Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them, which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. (Hebrews 13:3, KJV)
