East India, India

sex trafficking victimJustice Ventures International (JVI) and one of its local partners recently collaborated with government officials to rescue a 14-year-old girl and her 6-month baby from a brothel in East India.

Meher* was trafficked into the sex trade two years ago at the tender age of 12. She was forced to continue in the sex trade, even after she was found to be pregnant.

Working closely with JVI’s local partner, local police raided the brothel, securing the freedom of Meher and her baby girl from a life of abuse and exploitation.  Meher and her daughter are now recovering in a shelter home where she is receiving counseling and other care and rehabilitation services. JVI’s local lawyers are working with local authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are held and prosecuted under India’s human trafficking laws.
