In the heart of Delhi, a shocking truth was uncovered: 245 children and 772 adolescents were trapped in bonded labor, forced to work in extreme conditions for 12-13 hours a day without being paid their legal wages. A Justice Hub partner investigated the situation and found that the children were being trafficked and forced to work in hazardous conditions.
Justice Hub lawyers filed a legal action to seek government assistance in rescuing the child bonded laborers. Upon hearing the matter, the court issued directions allowing Justice Hub lawyers to work with the Delhi government in identifying the locations where bonded labour was occurring. A meeting was held with labor department officials and other government officials to develop a rescue plan.
On July 29th, 2024, a schedule outlining the rescue of these children was submitted to the court. Justice Hub partners will work to free hundreds of identified child and adolescent bonded laborers, thanks to the resourcefulness of Justice Hub lawyers and the responsiveness of the Delhi courts.
