Rajan’s story of hope.

There are more slaves in the world now than throughout all of history, and those numbers are only growing.

Many people associate modern-day slavery with sex trafficking, but in reality, 68 percent of enslaved persons are trapped in forced labor of some sort. Extreme poverty is one of many contributing factors that create vulnerability. Traffickers prey on vulnerable people by offering high interest loans. To repay the loans, victims are often taken to brick kilns, stone quarries or farmlands where they work tirelessly to repay their debt. However, the system is rigged. Through deceit and coercion, these victims continue to be held captive in bonded labor no matter how hard they work, often for generations.

For over a decade JVI has been combatting human trafficking and other extreme injustice. Since its inception, JVI and its partners have directly impacted over 60,000 people…each with their own story.

We are pleased to share an inspirational story of one of our labor trafficking survivors named Rajan. The name Rajan means “ruler” or “king”, a fitting name for this bonded labor survivor who has shown tremendous courage and leadership. Through video storytelling you will come to know more about the complexities of human trafficking and Rajan’s road to hope.
