Providing Hope for Children Exploited Due to Poverty

In Delhi, a group of children as young as seven were working 12 hours a day in a toy factory, building the toys that they should have been playing with instead. They received only 500 rupees per week (less than $6), and most had been taken from their homes under false promises, as they were desperate to find work for their struggling families.

The Delhi Justice Hub coordinated with local officials to rescue the children. As authorities entered the factory, the look of confusion on the children’s faces quickly turned into joy as they realized they were finally free from their burdens. Many were visibly tired and undernourished, but their spirits lifted with the promise of a new beginning. The children received necessary medical care and food and were relocated to a safe facility, where they could start to heal and recover from their ordeal. Justice Hub lawyers are working diligently to ensure these children receive any unpaid wages they are owed. To provide a pathway to a brighter future, Justice Hub partners will enroll the children in educational programs or vocational training.

Through these ongoing efforts, the Justice Hub will create lasting change for these children, enabling them to build a better life while ensuring their families have the resources needed to prevent such exploitation in the future.
