In 2019, seven-year-old Jyoti* obtained justice when a perpetrator who committed aggravated sexual assault was convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). However, the perpetrator appealed the conviction in 2020, alleging discrepancies in the evidence that failed to establish bodily contact between the victim and the accused. The Justice Hub lawyer representing Jyoti rebutted the statements of the accused, leading the court to reject the plea of appeal as ill-found and meritless. After a protracted process, the conviction was finalized in 2023.
Jyoti had been awarded a large amount of money as compensation for the 2019 judgment, but the manager at the bank where the funds were deposited presented yet another hurdle. Without justification, the bank manager refused to release the full amount to the victim and only released 20% of the funds.
Getting the money was of the utmost importance because Jyoti was awaiting critical medical care for a degenerative heart condition.
Jyoti’s Justice Hub lawyer worked tirelessly to obtain an order directing the bank manager to release the compensation. Throughout this process, Jyoti witnessed her lawyer’s persistence in advocating to ensure justice at every turn, relentless in the face of numerous obstacles.
