Minor Girl Rescued from Nepali Bar

Sixteen-year-old Rubina* was rescued from sexual exploitation at a bar in Nepal and is currently recovering at a shelter home. Four years ago, her mother sent her to work as a waitress at the bar to provide financial support for the family, but she was gradually coerced into prostitution. Upon learning of illicit activities taking place at a bar in the city, the Justice Hub team launched an investigation into the matter and promptly contacted the authorities, including the National Human Rights Commission and the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau, to join the rescue effort. Further investigation revealed that the owners of the bar were involved in handling and selling more than one minor girl.

Rubina’s mother was present at the October 4 rescue for an emotional reunion with her daughter and agreed to have Rubina go to a shelter home. However, the next day she sought Rubina’s release from the shelter home on the grounds that no exploitation had occurred. It became apparent that Rubina’s mother had been influenced by those associated with the bar owners to vehemently deny wrongdoing and convince Rubina to change her testimony. However, the Justice Hub team is working to assemble evidence to prosecute the traffickers and help Rubina in her restoration journey.
