A kingpin sex trafficker was recently arrested after a yearlong cat-and-mouse chase. Known for trafficking minors into the sex trade through a web of criminal networks, he had evaded arrest on many occasions.
JVI’s Justice Hub became aware of the kingpin when a minor female escaped from a brothel and found protection with a partner organization. This brave young girl agreed to go to the authorities to make a statement. At the police station, it was discovered that the kingpin had caught wind of the development and rushed all other minors girls out of the brothels and into hiding.
As the search continued, the trafficker evaded authorities over and over, always a step ahead. A task group was organized to plan a rescue operation with the Ministry of Women and Child Development. On the morning of the rescue attempt, teams of police officers and partners were prepared to execute rescue operations at four separate sites. The trafficker again eluded the raids and removed all minors before the rescue teams arrived. Finally, at one of the locations, during the commotion, many women came forward. They confided that they too had been forced into the trade with little money and no freedom. The women were transported to a shelter home and reconnected with their families, but none of them would make a statement, as their fear of the trafficker loomed over them even in their freedom.
Finally, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit got involved and briefed on the six months’ of compiled research. The intelligence led the team to take the trafficker by surprise, secure his brothel, and arrest him on the spot.
The trafficking business in that location has experienced an unexpected disruption. To turn this disruption into an end, Justice Hub lawyers are preparing a strong case against the trafficker, to bring sustainable justice transformation in this community.
