Anam,* a young girl, was rescued in 2021 from the red light district where she had been working after being brainwashed and threatened by a trusted older woman who took advantage of Anam’s poverty. While under the care of a shelter home, it was determined that Anam had underwent an abortion. The medical evaluation also indicated that she had severe physical and psychological issues, such as hearing problems, stuttering, an IQ far below her age level, and difficulty with social adaptation.
The shelter home provided Anam the support and treatment she needed, and after two years the Child Welfare Committee finally reconnected her with her family.
She enrolled in a program that provides educational training and skill development for young survivors and continued to participate in follow-up support and counseling from Justice Hub social workers. Anam has made significant physical and psychological progress and her interest and efforts in her studies has resulted in her promotion to senior tailor training. She aspires to be a skilled craftsperson one day and is taking every opportunity to make a meaningful life for herself.
