Freed from generational bonded labor, a family of fifteen was starting over from square one. They signed up for a government program that assists families living below the poverty line by providing a monthly ration of rice, wheat, and essential household items. The family was assigned to a private vendor who was supposed to give them their ration each month. However, the private vendor took advantage of the family’s low standing in society and their lack of education. The vendor withheld their ration, deceiving the family into believing that they had already received it, and he then sold the ration for his own profit. This went on for two years without the family understanding that they were owed the rations.
When the local Justice Hub became aware of the situation, they investigated and acted to correct this injustice. Together with the local government, the Justice Hub team enrolled the family with a vendor that is now providing the correct ration that they are rightfully owed. Thanks to the coordination and partnership of the local Justice Hub members, the family of survivors are receiving resources to help them overcome poverty and begin a life of financial freedom.
