A Malnourished Infant is Saved

Baby Kumar’s family had been victims of bonded labor for generations. Despite being rescued in 2022, his mother and her family found themselves back at the brick kiln due to a lack of resources. Without access to necessities such as medical care, Baby Kumar’s mother passed away soon after giving birth, leaving his father with a newborn baby and three other children.

Kumar’s father returned to his parents’ village for help with the children, but with Kumar’s grandfather suffering from leprosy and his grandmother tending to him, they were unable to provide any assistance. Kumar’s father began to spiral into depression and reached out to relatives to take Kumar under their care. When no one could take in Baby Kumar, he contemplated abandoning the newborn, and Kumar became malnourished.

When he was near the end of his rope, Kumar’s father was visited by the Justice Hub team during their field visit to the village to check on survivor families. When the team observed the infant’s deteriorating health, they accompanied Kumar’s father to a nearby health center, where doctors put together a recovery plan for Kumar.

Today, doctors are optimistic that Kumar will recover, and his family has received the support needed to care for him. The Justice Hub team will stay connected to the family and continue to encourage them in their progress towards full restoration.
