28 Children Rescued from Bonded Slavery

Delhi, India

delhi_rescue_june2017Justice Ventures International (JVI) recently rescued 28 children from bonded labor conditions in the city of Delhi. The rescue was conducted in collaboration with JVI partner EFICOR and local government officials and police. The children, ages 8-17, were working in a textile factory under oppressive and exploitative conditions.

delhi_rescue 2017The children were trafficked from neighboring states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The survivors, 27 boys and one girl, lived and worked in suffocating rooms for up to 15 hours a day, paid less than minimum wages, and were fed only two times a day. The children had only two sets of clothes and many were without shoes.

The police have sealed the manufacturing units and legal proceedings have been initiated against the perpetrators. These children are now receiving counseling and other immediate support at a secure home.  JVI lawyers will work with the police and prosecutors to hold the offenders accountable while JVI partners ensure that these trafficking survivors are provided with education and other vital services to achieve sustained freedom.
