Human trafficking affects over 40.3 million lives across the globe, including an estimated 8 million people living in India under conditions of modern-day slavery.¹ JVI developed the 2022 Anti-Human Trafficking Toolkit as a comprehensive guide for NGO partners and their lawyers as they engage in the fight against human trafficking.
The toolkit contains an overview of human trafficking, highlighting key concepts and undercurrents of modern-day slavery, and provides selected statistics. In addition, the toolkit provides an overview of the specific context of trafficking in India.
The toolkit contains Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs). These SOPs provide a list of critical steps to be taken by NGOs, attorneys, and partners in fighting the two most common forms of human trafficking in India: bonded labor and sex trafficking. Embedded in these guided steps are sections labeled “Learn More & Take Action.” These sections point the reader to practical and legal information such as: Legal Frameworks, Selected Landmark Supreme Court Cases, Human Trafficking Success Stories, and the Appendices where the reader can find further resources..
The toolkit is now available in JVI’s e-Justice Resource Center; an online technology platform that provides access to resources that assist in collaboration and engagement for JVI staff and partners to be equipped to fight trafficking.
