Nancy Sung

Vice Chair

Nancy Sung, Ph.D. has long been interested in justice issues, though her professional work has been in science, diplomacy, and philanthropy. She is currently a Science Advisor at the National Science Foundation (NSF). From 2014-2018, she served as a Science Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China, and headed NSF’s office there. Prior to that she was a senior program officer at the Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF), an independent grantmaking U.S. foundation.  Dr. Sung earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). She and her husband have two grown children, and live outside Washington, DC.
